Staff & business-services evaluations

Better performance reviews for every team behind your firm

SRA helps law firms evaluate and develop the professionals who keep the firm running, from paralegals and legal assistants to HR, finance, IT, marketing and administrative teams. Configure role-specific review programs in Artemis, or have SRA help administer them.

One firm, many roles, and evaluations that reflect the difference

Legal support and business-services teams have different responsibilities, job families, reporting lines and performance criteria. A litigation paralegal, a finance analyst and an IT manager are not doing the same work, and one generic form asks each of them questions that do not fit.

Many firms have a large non-attorney population, reporting to a mix of attorneys, department heads and office administrators. Running one consistent cycle across that population, while keeping each department’s criteria, is mostly coordination work, and it usually falls to a small HR team.

Built for the people who support legal practice

These groups are examples, not a fixed taxonomy. Your firm defines its own employee groups and the criteria each is reviewed against.

Paralegals and legal support

Paralegals, legal assistants, practice assistants, docketing and litigation support.

Business services

Finance and accounting, HR and talent, marketing and business development, IT, knowledge management and operations.

Administrative and operational teams

Office administration, facilities, executive support and the other functions particular to your firm.

Managers and department leaders

Supervisor evaluations, and the development conversations that follow them, set against the firm’s expectations for people leaders.

A structured cycle that fits each department

Artemis runs staff reviews on the same platform as attorney evaluations, configured for your job families. In scoping we walk through each stage against your current HR process and confirm what is configured before the cycle opens.

  1. Configure

Set up review templates, competencies and dates for each job family, level, department or office. Artemis connects with Workday, UKG, ADP and other HR systems.

  2. Assign

Set who reviews whom: the employee’s manager, the employee’s own self-assessment, and other reviewers where your process calls for them.

  3. Collect

Managers get a clear form for each review assigned to them, and automated reminders when one is outstanding. HR administrators can see progress across departments and offices.

  4. Report

Completed reviews pass through the approval steps your firm sets before release. Ratings and written feedback roll up by department or group for HR, and export to PDF, Excel, CSV or other formats you need.

Access is set by role throughout, so each review reaches only the people your firm designates. Staff reviews are attributed personnel records and are not presented as anonymous.

Why not use a generic form tool?

A staff review program has to be practical for HR administrators to run, clear to managers who complete a handful of reviews a year, and relevant to the role being reviewed. Generic form and survey tools can collect the answers. They do not handle reviewer assignments across departments, role-based access to personnel records, or reports that roll up the way your HR team and department heads read them.

SRA brings law-firm experience to how the review is designed and administered, and Artemis provides the workflow. You can keep one firmwide process where consistency matters, such as the rating scale and the calendar, and vary competencies and forms by department where the work differs.

Run staff evaluations with your HR team, or with SRA’s support

Both options run on the same Artemis platform. The difference is who carries the administration.

Artemis Software

Your HR or operations team runs the evaluation cycle in Artemis, with agreed onboarding and product support from SRA.

Artemis + SRA Managed

SRA handles cycle setup, coordination, follow-up with managers and report preparation, under a scope agreed in advance.

If your firm runs both attorney and staff reviews, ask us how a coordinated rollout keeps different forms, reviewers, deadlines and access rights for each. Associate and counsel evaluations run on the same platform.

Law-firm experience for the whole workforce

SRA has worked with US law firms on performance and feedback programs since 1991, and that work has included evaluations for non-attorney staff and business-services teams. This is part of SRA’s established work with law firms, now supported by Artemis, not a move into general HR software.

Questions HR teams ask

Can staff evaluations use different forms by department or position?

Yes. We start with your job families and review criteria, then confirm how each template and its reviewer rules are configured in Artemis. Anything that would need to change is agreed before implementation.

Can we include paralegals and legal support staff?

Yes. Legal support, business services and administrative groups can each have their own workflow. Paralegals are often reviewed with input from the attorneys they work for as well as their manager, and we configure that where your process includes it.

Do staff evaluations have to match our attorney reviews?

No. Staff and attorney reviews can share a platform and keep separate competencies, reviewers, cycles, permissions and reports. For the attorney side, see associate and counsel evaluations.

Can employees complete self-assessments?

Yes. Self-assessments run in the same cycle as the manager review. In a walkthrough we show the configuration proposed for your firm, including how the self-assessment and the manager review come together.

Does Artemis connect to our HR system?

Artemis connects with Workday, UKG, ADP and several other HR systems. In scoping we confirm which data moves between your HR system and Artemis, and how often, so the employee and manager records a cycle relies on stay current.

Does Artemis use AI?

Artemis offers AI-assisted drafting and consistency checks on written feedback. Managers review the output before it is used. We show both in a product walkthrough.

Do you support a large staff population across several offices?

We scope the population first: how many people, which groups and offices, and what HR and department heads need reported. Then we show you the administrative workflow for that scope before committing to an implementation plan.

Can SRA run the process for us?

Yes. With Artemis + SRA Managed, SRA handles setup, coordination, follow-up and reporting under a defined scope. Your HR team can also run cycles in Artemis directly.

Are staff reviews confidential or anonymous?

Staff performance reviews are attributed. The manager writes as themselves, because the review feeds decisions about the employee and needs an author who can be asked about it. Access is set by role, and we document who can see what before the cycle opens.

Anonymity applies to a different kind of program: confidential surveys and upward reviews, where staff can give feedback on the people they work for, reported only above an agreed threshold.

How is pricing determined?

Pricing depends on the number of people evaluated, how many review programs you run and how complex they are, your reporting requirements, and whether SRA-managed services are included. Contact us for a recurring proposal scoped to your firm.
