Where else this applies
The practice was built in US law firms and that is where the evidence comes from. These are the sectors that share the structure the instrument was designed around.
What decides whether a sector belongs here
One question. Does the person being reviewed control the reviewer's work allocation, their hours and their progression? Where the answer is yes, feedback collected by the organization itself is diplomatic for sound reasons, and moving custody of the responses outside the firm changes what people are willing to say.
Where the answer is no, a general HR platform will serve you about as well, and we would be competing on features rather than on the thing we are good at. Partnerships that allocate work and decide advancement internally are the cases that qualify.
In every sector below, the method, the confidentiality architecture and the suppression discipline are the same ones described onthe methodology page. What changes is the competency framework, the fielding calendar and how tightly the reporting threshold has to be set. Each page says which.
3 sectors, alongside the law firm practice
- Accounting firmsIndependently administered upward reviews, 360s and engagement surveys for US accounting firms, built on a method developed over 35 years in law firms, where the same reporting relationship makes honest feedback hard to collect.
- Consulting firmsIndependently administered upward reviews, 360s and engagement surveys for US consulting firms, where most firms already collect feedback at the end of every engagement and the upward half of it is the part nobody trusts.
- Coaching practicesIndependently administered 360s for executive and leadership coaches, where the report goes to the coachee and the coach, and the employer receives nothing.
If your sector is not listed
Tell us how work is allocated and who decides advancement. That is usually enough to say whether the instrument would produce anything you could act on, and we would rather say no early than design a program around a problem we are not built for.
